December 9,2011

We are still living with Mom and Dad. I am so grateful that they still like us. We have some exciting things that have been happening for my kids.
Kristianne has been invited to join the Honors Band with her school. It means more rehearsals on our own time but she is really excited. Only 4 kids from her school were chosen. Also, we were told by her orthodontist that she will not need oral surgery to make her canine teeth come down. We are so relieved.
Noah and Kristianne are both doing a science fair project. It is mandatory but at least they want to do one.
Jonah is doing really well in school. He loves doing homework and getting it done before it is required.
Tom and I have come to a decision. We will not be moving all the way to San Diego but most likely we will be moving to Temecula or Murrieta because it is: 1. Cheaper, if we stay in Riverside County and not in North County then rent isn't so high. and 2. I think the weather will be warmer for Kristianne and the boys. They love to be outside and in some places where Tom is at right now is getting snow flurries.
I will post pictures later.

November 2, 2011

Well we have made it through October. Dad had his surgery and seems to be doing well. He does have some weakness in his arms. The kids are doing really well.
Kristianne went to 6th grade camp and loved every minute of it. It was only 3 days and 2 nights but she came home so tired. When she came home she told me all about the activities that she participated in. She did survival safety, rock climbing, horse back riding, canoeing and even went on a night hike with the rest of the kids. She did say that she felt jipped just a little bit because her horse was actually a mule not a horse. I tried to explain that that is better because they are more sure footed.
Noah is still being himself. He is very smart but at times I see some insecurities in him. I don't know why but I guess it is normal for a 9 year old boy to feel that way. He is looking forward to helping Grandma with pie night and Thanksgiving. He is still loving mowing the lawn and serving Grandpa. He has acted just a wee bit strange since Grandpa came home from the hospital. I guess mom found out that he is now really nervous or scared to hurt grandpa. He doesn't seem to know what needs to be done or where he fits in. I hope after a talk with Grandma he will find his spot.
Jonah is Jonah. He is loving school so much that at times I really think he gets bored. He still gets his weekly homework packets done in 2 days and then gets mad when it is over. He had an interesting experience the past few weeks. A little girl in one of the other kindergarten classes at his school died this last friday. She had a heart condition that she finally gave into. They talked to the kids about this and offered counseling for them. We spent time talking about this and he decided that she is with her Heavenly Father. I was really proud that he thought about it that way.
Tom is still working in San Diego and I am trying to save up money to get us a place down there. We had an interesting experience over Halloween. I took my kids actually trick or treating. Since we have always lived in apartment complexes that don't do trick or treating, they found it to be the most fun. It took us 2 hours to make it around the block. The kids got so much candy and were so tired. So tired even that they didn't want to get up the next morning. Kristianne went as an Eskimo Princess, Noah was a cowboy, and Jonah was a knight in shining armor. Noah was so convincing as a cowboy that at times he seemed to channel John Wayne. I'm trying to get the pictures to upload correctly. I'm having some problems.

October 7, 2011

Here are my three kids getting ready for the fall picture day at school. I was really proud of the boys because they both wanted to wear ties to school. The removed them after pictures but at least they wore them for pics. Jonah has a black backpack and told me this morning with his tie and backpack that he looks just like a missionary. I only wish that the missionaries of the world would know of the impact that they have on young people in the wards where they serve. The kids also got their first progress report for this school year. We will work on things with each child.

Kristianne is getting ready for her trip to 6th grade science camp. It is in 2 weeks and I think she is really excited but I feel nerves. I know that she needs to grow up but this is the first time that she will have gone to a camp of any kind and I'm worried. I know that the teachers that are going are amazing and will take good care of her but it is just that I won't be there. I guess I should just tell myself "Suck it up, cupcake."

Noah is also learning much. He is struggling with writing, not that he can't write it is just that when he takes a timed test he starts to freeze up and doesn't do as well. I know that it just takes time to learn your best stragedy for test taking. I will be here to support him and help him do is very best as always.

Jonah is loving going to school. We are trying to get him to just use capital letters at the correct times. In his progress report it says that he is below grade level because he uses all caps to write his sentences. He is also the only left handed kid in his class. It is sometimes easier for him to write in all caps. I know that he will get it in time but really do the teachers need to put him below basic levels just because of that. Give me a break.

Tom is still working and camping in San Diego. We are all trying to save money up so that we can get a place together. I know that my kids need to spend time with their dad. We have been waiting for The City of Upland to make their decision regarding our appeal for wrongful termination. We should know by the 20th of this month the ruling.

I am really trying to find my place in the world. Now that I'm not working I have been helping a friend of my with her online store. I have been learning how to imput all the info for her so that she can sell things. It has be a challenge and quite satisfying because I have figured out so much by myself.

Well here is the Guymon family in a nut shell. I will keep updating...

September 13, 2011

Well we have made it to the 3rd week of school. I no longer work at the kids school. The new principal decided that he didn't need me anymore and let me go but has since hired 2 more people. It makes me wonder if it was just that he didn't like me and wanted his favorites there. The kids are still attending Madison at least until we can get enough money to get an apartment in San Diego or its surrounding areas.

I have been dealing with the above problem and also some unusual facial swelling. One doctor told me it was a sinus infection but a dentist said that it is an abscess. The only problem with that theory is that the dentist can't find the abscess anywhere. I looked like I had been hit by a bat or a fist. These are pictures were taken on Thursday Sept.8, and Friday Sept. 9th, thank heavens that the swelling started to go down on Sat. I was sure that I wanted to go to church with my face this messy.
Fridays Swelling

Thursdays Swelling

Jonah is loving all day kindergarten and is learning so much. He doesn't like not seeing me everyday at lunch but I really think it will be good for him. He knows all but 2 of his kindergarten no excuse words by sight and is reading easy readers as part of his homework.

Noah is loving being in his 4th grade class. He actually in a combo class with 5th graders. He recently took a pretest on what he knows of 4th grade math and got a perfect on it. I don't know what to do with such a smart kid. He recently, also, received his wolf badge in cub scouts. He also worked really hard to get his World Conservation Cub Scout Patch. It was a lot of work but he feels amazing now that he has it. He is in the Bear den now and will be learning much there.

Kristianne is, as always, an amazing young lady. She is getting ready for 6th grade science camp coming up in October. I guess the camp thingy begins. She wanted to be part of the fundraiser for camp tuition, so that it wouldn't be such a struggle to get her there. She was able to raise all the money needed in a 24 hour period. Thanks to Grandma Rogers and Marilyn Lewis at Arlanza Elem. I can hardly believe that in just 6 short months she is going to be going into young women. Where has time gone.

Tom is still working down in San Diego and has been getting more consistent hours so that will make it easier for us to save up money for rent and deposit on a place. We so want to be all together again. It has been hard on all of us with this long distance relationship as a family. I only pray for his continued success at work.

That about updates everyone and thing that is going on up to today. Stay tuned, I'm sure this will change.

First Week at School

I am sure that all of you are aware that my kids started school this week. Boy what a rush. I have 3 in school now. Wow. I went back to work to find that I only get about 1 hour right now. It frustrates me but the kids are more upset seeing me and knowing that I can't change the situation. I have been told that I'm just to work with the kindergarteners and know that I am being under utilized.

My kids are enjoying their teachers. Jonah has Ms. Gratwick, first impression was this is going to be a hard year for him but after working with her for 2 days, she is a great teacher. I just goes to show you that first impressions can be very wrong.

Noah has Ms. Mendoza again this year. She is teaching a 4/5 combo class and I really think she is an amazing teacher. The kids always ask us if we are sisters from another mister. I really like her teaching style and that the kids really get a great learning experience from her.

Kristianne has Ms. Danco. Noah had her as a 1st grade teacher so we are also familar with her teaching style. I know that we will have great things that will come out of this class. I just hope that she rises to the expectations of the entire 6th grade team.

If things change we will be going back to San Diego to be a family again. I know that is what Tom and I want most of all.

August 26, 2011

Well today was Jonah's Kindergarten orientation and I found out that he has the teacher that I most didn't want him to have. I have decided that if that is who he is put in then we will give her 2 weeks and if a change needs to happen then I will do it then.
School starts in just 2 days. I really think that the kids are excited to be back in the swing of things.

I have turned in my application to WGU and the application was accepted. I now am waiting to see if I get accepted at the school. fingers crossed.

August 22,2011

Well here it is just a week away from the kids going to school. I am sure looking forward to having them in a structured classroom that is more than the regiment that I have them on. One thing that I have started doing and it does seem to help is that now each of the kids take turn to cook. That means some days we eat what a 5 year old would want and other days our dinner is more than chicken fingers or hot dogs but it is teaching them valuable lessons.

I am going to have to start taking pictures of the kids each cooking their dinner. This has been more interesting when Jonah is one that refuses to eat what is fixed. He will go hungry until breakfast if he doesn't at least try it so to see that if he cooks it, he will try it then I'm all for the change.

Update on me going to school. I am working on paying my application fee and getting the grants or loans that will make it possible to attend. I am a little bit nervous but know that it will be the best thing for my family. I've also noticed that the kids are excited to know that their mom wants to go to school. I never thought that it would be such an example to them.

Other than that small update, there is nothing exciting going on.
Until next time....

We are on the steps of a rebuild of the first hotel in San Diego built by the spanish and the Mormon battalion. The kids really enjoyed their day at Old Town San Diego.

Here the kids are next to an old covered wagon in Old Town.

At the Mormon Battalion Museum and the kids are "panning" for gold in their hands on area. The kids could also pump water, make mud bricks and then walk up to the bell tower and see all of Old Town as well as part of San Diego. It was beautiful.

We went to the new Mormon Battalion Museum and the kids are trying to shoot the cannon outside.

Changes

I am making changes in my life for the better. I have decided to finish my batchelor's degree. I will be working at my kids school but know that an education is so important. I am trying to get into Western Governors University for Elementary Education. I want to teach K - 5. I pray that it will be a doable goal for me and my kids and husband. I will keep all posted on my process.

Wow

I can't believe that it has been a year and a half since the last time I put anything on this blog. I am such a flake. I guess I should try to fill in the last little while.

First, November of 2010, There was a fire in the apartment above us and we had to be removed from our apartment. We were with My mom and dad for 3 1/2 to 4 months. Finally on Feb 14th of 2011, we were able to move back into our apartment. I know the kids were really happy to be back in their own space.

Second, The day after the fire, Tom was put on administrative leave from the City of Upland. So now we had no job but at least we were still being paid and had no home to be in. It boiled down to on about the 23 of December 2010 Tom was officially let go from his position in the City. We went on unemployment for a little while, thank heavens that we had our tax return this year because half of it went to paying for 2 months rent in advance.

Tom finally started looking for work and found something in the San Diego area. We then had to decide on moving or staying here. Tom and I decided that moving after school got out for the kids would be the best plan. He was working there and I was packing, preparing a house to be moved into storage. We left Riverside on the 23 of June 2011. We made it down to our little trailer in El Cajon, CA.

This move took alot out of me and my emotional reserves. It took a few weeks for us to be okay staying on our little home with the understanding that I would be bringing the kids back for school if we didn't have anything permanent to live in. We have about a 100 square foot trailer. I needed the kids to have room to go homework since all 3 are in school now. In July the kids and I came up to Riverside for a weekend and ended up staying here semi permanently. We are still planning to move back down but Tom's hours were being cut and it made more sense to have the kids in a safe enviroment for schooling.

I now have my job back at Madison Elementary and the kids are registered for their classes. The nice thing is that I never removed their transcripts from Madison. We are now going to be here for a few months.

Wow what a crazy year.
